Boiler Health Check Differences

What’s the difference between a Boiler Health Check and a Boiler Service?

Boiler Health Check

Why do I need a Boiler Health Check?

All gas products include a Boiler Health Check as an initial inspection to check things over and make sure your boiler is safe and can be covered. Your boiler must pass before any boiler claims can be progressed. It's quick and easy to book online and must be booked or completed within the first 90 days; otherwise your level of cover will be amended to remove the boiler product.

Arranging your Boiler Health Check

  • Once you have purchased your gas cover online, you will see a link to go through and book your Boiler Health Check.
  • Alternatively, we will also send you an email and a letter within 7 days from purchase detailing how to book your Boiler Health Check.
  • Appointments are available Monday - Friday 8am-6pm and you can book either online or by phone.
  • Once booked a Gas Safe® registered engineer will visit your property to complete the Boiler Health Check.
  • If your boiler passes the health check, you will receive a confirmation and your cover will continue unaffected.

What if an existing problem is identified prior to or during my Boiler Health Check (BHC)?

Contact us to tell us and we'll arrange for one of our engineers to attend to complete the Boiler Health Check and assess if your boiler can be covered. If your boiler doesn't pass the Boiler Health Check, we won't be able to progress your boiler claim and you will need to pay for any repairs. If this work is not completed, we will amend the level of cover to remove the boiler product.

What happens during a Boiler Health Check?

  • We’ll inspect the entire structure of your chimney flue.
  • We’ll check your boiler is igniting properly.
  • We’ll test your boiler – including your heating and hot water.
  • We’ll assess the controls to make sure they’re working, as they should be.
  • We’ll check how energy efficient your boiler is.

Boiler Service

Benefits of having a service

Regular servicing reduces the risk of a breakdown and keeps it running smoothly. Your Boiler Service will be completed at the same time as your Boiler Health Check in the first year. Thereafter, it will usually be completed between April and September.

What happens during a Boiler Service?

  • We’ll inspect your boiler to make sure it’s working properly.
  • We’ll clean the parts, if we need to.
  • We’ll check that all the seals and gaskets are secure.
  • We’ll make sure it’s not emitting any unsafe fumes.
  • We’ll test the gas connections and gas pressure.
  • We’ll visually check any other gas appliances.

We’ll let you know  of anything that could make your gas appliances unsafe.

Trust Gas Safe® registered engineers to get the job done

Whether it’s a Boiler Health Check or Boiler Service, you can trust that you’ll be in safe hands. All HomeServe approved engineers are Gas Safe® registered. The Gas Safe® Register is the official gas registration body in Great Britain.
