This cover meets the needs of homeowners who require insurance and expert assistance in the event of a kitchen appliance breakdown at their domestic property.
What is covered?
You are covered for an electrical or mechanical breakdown of the domestic kitchen appliance(s), as detailed on your Policy Schedule. You are covered for call-out, parts, materials, labour and VAT. Accidental damage is also covered. The following domestic kitchen appliances can be covered under Kitchen Appliance Protection: cookers (excluding heat storage cookers e.g. AGA, Rayburn), cooker hoods, dishwashers, freezers, hobs, ovens, refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, tumble dryers, microwaves, washer dryers and washing machines. The cover also includes the inlet and outlet pipes on all plumbed in appliances and the electrical wiring and direct wiring on all electrical appliances.
Are there any cover limits?
There are no limits to the number of claims you can make on this cover. Each claim is limited to the value of the appliance covered plus any additional repairs, delivery, installation and disposal costs.
What is not covered?
- Appliances older than 15 years at the start of the policy.
- Pre-existing faults known about before the insurance started.
- An electrical or mechanical breakdown if caused by the fitting of any accessory, routine servicing or inspection, failure to maintain or to follow manufacturer's instructions including wilful neglect and general wear and tear consistent with age and usage.
- Costs incurred where you have been advised of the need to carry out permanent repair work to avoid repetitive situations leading to a breakdown of your kitchen appliance(s).
- Installation of integrated appliances.
What if your kitchen appliance cannot be repaired?
Should the estimated cost of repair exceed 85% of our supplier's recommended retail price for a replacement, or spare parts cannot be obtained, and your appliance is less than 8 years old at the time of claim, you will be covered for the cost of call-out, delivery, and installation (excluding hobs, cooker hoods and integrated appliances) of a replacement of a same or similar model of same or better functionality. You will also be covered for the cost of disposal of the original appliance. If your appliance is over 8 years old at the time of claim a 20% contribution will be given towards the cost of a replacement of the same or similar model of same or better functionality.
How many appliances can I cover?
You can choose to cover up to 9 kitchen appliances.
Who is eligible to apply?
All homes are eligible to apply for Kitchen Appliance Protection, unless the property is a mobile home, bedsit, let or sublet, is in multiple occupancy or is used for commercial purposes.
Can I spread the cost of cover?
If you pay by Direct Debit you can pay quarterly or monthly. Quarterly and monthly instalments will vary depending on the number of appliances you have elected to cover and their age. Please see table below, which details the cost of cover when all covered appliances are under 8 years old.

Appliances equal to or greater than 8 years old but less than 15 years old at the time cover commences are subject to an additional premium charge per appliance per month. (NB. Appliances that are under 8 years old when cover commences will not be subject to this additional premium charge as they age). Payment by any other method will be one annual payment, as detailed below.
When will I be covered?
Your policy starts the day your application is processed. To prevent claims on pre-existing problems and to keep premiums low, there is an initial period of 28 days where you will not be covered, giving you 11 months' cover in your first year. You can choose to swap or add more appliances to cover at anytime, however, an initial 28 day period when you cannot claim will apply to each new appliance.

What happens next year?
If you choose to pay by Direct Debit or credit/debit card, excluding Maestro payments, your policy will automatically renew. You will receive your new policy documentation in advance of renewal to give you time to consider whether the cover is still right for you. If you make any claim on the policy this may affect your future premium.
What if I am not satisfied?
